NOT A FORGOTTEN TRADITION OF AN GLASBLAESER

It’s about time that I take you to the green heart of Germany in Thuringia. I finally managed to travel home to see my mom after being separated for such a long time. “In der Kürze liegt die Würze.” This is a German saying, meaning the shorter something is the more spiced it usually will be.

This is the best way to describe my visit and my life on the road as a dj and model. Flying in like a thunder, performing and leaving town for the next one.

Showing a buddy around the area, getting some errants in and stopping by cultural places I bumped into Rachel. It is very rare for me to hear english in that area and I was surprised that someone all the way from Virginia found its groove in Neuhaus am Rennweg. A place where more trees than houses can be found on the mountain of Thuringia.

Similar to my story just coming from the other side of the pond. Rachel is a Glasblower who never left the city after her internship. On her way to lunch she took the time and sat down to show us what she is working on. Something I’m proud to share from my region where I come from and not many people know.

A traditional profession who almost get’s forgotten in our to fast living world. An expertise of fine art all made by hand and in Germany. This profession performed 40 – 45+ years ago can be compared to a job as a secretary in a company today. Manu manufactures had to close and just a view survived. Greiner Glas Manufaktur is one of them.

countryside view and life

The signature piece, a porcelain rose installed within a glass bowl, later filled with oil to light as a candle is what Rachel focuses on for more than 90% of her work.

Press watch to get to know a modern Glasblaeser artist from Virginia and nowadays based out of Germany.
